OCHA:$160 million needed to address Afghanistan’s education needs in 2026

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that Afghanistan’s education sector is facing a shortage of teachers, classrooms, and educational resources.

According to OCHA $160 million is needed to support Afghanistan’s education sector in 2026 but only $22 million has been secured so far.

OCHA has expressed concern over the continued ban on girls’ education beyond Grade 6 calling for urgent education funding and the lifting of restrictions on girls’ education.
