Zabihullah Mujahid spokesperson for the Taliban government has called on the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to base its assessments on accurate information and facts in response to the mission’s latest report.
Mujahid said the report described the arrests of certain individuals by the Taliban government’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and other official institutions as “arbitrary.” However according to him, these arrests were carried out in accordance with applicable laws and regulations to prevent un-Islamic activities and reform individuals.
He questioned why UNAMA’s reports do not reflect the Taliban government’s efforts to provide public assistance, accommodate returning refugees prevent security threats, advance political developments and implement major economic programs.
Mujahid accused UNAMA of spreading propaganda against Afghanistan’s government instead of acting as a neutral international body claiming that the mission is attempting to present a negative image of Afghanistan to the international community.
He emphasized that such conduct by UNAMA raises questions about the mission’s impartiality.
