The Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment says exports of mineral stones from the province have increased by more than 1000 percent this year compared with last year.
The reported increase indicates growth in the sector and greater access for local producers to international markets.
Tolo News has previously reported that mineral and decorative stones from Herat are exported to countries including the United States, Australia, China, Iran, Turkmenistan, as well as several European and Arab countries.
According to the broadcaster, 50 tonnes of black stone from Herat’s Ghoryan district were recently exported to the United States, with an estimated value of around $100000.
Officials in Herat’s industrial and mining sector have said that improvements in stone quality and the use of advanced processing machinery have helped local products gain access to international markets.
