The Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has said that Pakistani military forces are already present in Saudi Arabia and are operating across various capabilities and domains.
Speaking to CNN, and responding to a question about whether Pakistani troops had been deployed to Saudi Arabia under the Makkah Defence Alliance, he said that Pakistani forces have been present in Saudi Arabia for several decades.
The Makkah joint defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye was signed on August 7 this year.
Under the agreement, an armed attack against one member state is considered an attack against all member states, with the three countries committed to strengthening joint defence cooperation.
According to Pakistan’s military spokesperson, the presence of Pakistani forces in Saudi Arabia is not limited to a single area, but covers various military capabilities and domains.
The remarks come as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have also agreed under the Makkah defence agreement to facilitate the rapid deployment of military forces and capabilities to defend Saudi Arabia.
