The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban government has confirmed that Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Foreign Minister will travel to Moscow at the official invitation of Russia to participate in the eighth Moscow Format Consultative Meeting on Afghanistan.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on October 5, 2026, in Moscow with representatives from regional countries in attendance.
According to media reports Afghanistan will participate in the meeting as an official member. Officials from participating countries are expected to discuss developments in Afghanistan the expansion of regional cooperation security issues, and efforts to combat terrorism and drug trafficking.
Muttaqi is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with officials from several participating countries on the sidelines of the meeting.
The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening Afghanistan’s political and economic relations with these countries and expanding regional cooperation.
The meeting is being held as part of regional efforts to address issues concerning Afghanistan.
