Officials in Afghanistan’s Panjshir province say a turquoise mine has been discovered in the Anaba district.
Saifuddin Laton, spokesperson for the governor of Panjshir said a technical team from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has been assigned to conduct a survey collect samples, and assess the quantity and quality of the deposits.
According to him if the deposits are confirmed and the necessary legal procedures are completed the mine could be opened for turquoise extraction.
Panjshir is already known for its mineral resources, including emeralds, tourmaline and green garnet, as well as several other types of minerals.
